Soy una nopalera al filo del abismo es una instalación expansiva que encuentra su primera materialización en la galería Kunstraum Traklhaus de Salzburgo, Austria, entre julio y septiembre de 2026, como parte de la exposición Under Other Suns, junto a una instalación del artista Christian Kosmas Mayer. En ella exploro distintas formas de entrar en contacto con el nopal tunero, en busca de complicidades más que humanas con este ser majestuoso que ha alimentado la carne y la imaginación mexicana durante siglos.

La instalación reúne filmaciones en Super 8, una pintura mural realizada con acrílico y grana cochinilla, fotografías sobre tela, impresiones en plata sobre gelatina intervenidas manualmente con grana cochinilla, un video a dos canales que despliega una danza entre espinas filmada con una cámara de cine de alta definición, y esculturas impresas en 3D de nopales creciendo en el desierto. Todas estas materialidades se articulan mediante un paisaje sonoro y una composición musical creados a partir del sonido de las espinas del nopal.

I Am a Nopalera at the Edge of the Abyss is an expansive installation that finds its first materialization at Kunstraum Traklhaus in Salzburg, Austria, where it will be presented from July to September 2026 as part of the exhibition Under Other Suns, alongside a new installation by Christian Kosmas Mayer. Through this work, I explore different ways of coming into contact with the nopal tunero, seeking more-than-human forms of kinship with this majestic being that has nourished both the body and imagination of Mexico for centuries.

The installation brings together Super 8 films, a mural painted with acrylic and cochineal pigment, photographs printed on translucent fabric, silver gelatin prints hand-painted with cochineal, a two-channel video unfolding as a dance among thorns filmed with a high-definition cinema camera, and 3D-printed sculptures of nopales growing in the desert. These materialities are woven together through a soundscape and a musical composition created by playing the spines of the nopal.
